Media Ecology Live Tweeting

Media Ecology studies the form and structure of the delivery mechanism of a message, and the impact of that form on the communication process. This conference, some friends, and events in Iran have motivated to start tweeting and study what I can of the impact of twitter as a medium on me and what I wish to communicate. I can only say that so far, I am amazed at the “broadcast sense” this produces as I think about what I am doing. This raises many questions of security, motivation, expected goals, and all such risk analysis. But my predominant sense is of being a neuron in the massive human brain that is the tweetosphere. This is no small advance for man’s communication toolkit. But like all tools, we must use wisely and well. New freedoms mean new responsibilities. And when a tool is used responsibly, it is an extension of man (to use a McLuhanism) and indeed the finite reaching toward the infinite in some small but real way.
